Part 81: Good Cop, Bad Cop - Part 12
I'm afraid you've been under a terrible misapprehension about Al's 'alternative' persona.
You see, the Al that was very nearly mortally wounded here four years ago is...
Eh? I don't understand.
What, Potty Prof's the real Prof, and the good Prof's his evil twin?
Very funny, Hilda. But to be honest, I'm not really in the mood for jokes right now.
I'm quite serious, Lucy.
I don't really think it was Hilda's place to tell Lucy.
But when I saw you chatting away happily to the other Al, I just didn't quite know how to bring it up.
That must have happened post case seven. Lucy's unexplained reluctance to ask Alfriendli about his past is something I dislike about this game. Lucy clearly didn't talk to Alfriendli about what happened with Makepeace until this case, and seems to have never actually asked Alfriendli about his split personality, even though she clearly thought Alfendi was dangerous. If there is any sort of reason why Lucy didn't want to discuss either topic, like with the Hilda topic in case seven, I wouldn't mind but there doesn't seem to be any reason, as far as I can see.
I know exactly how you must be feeling. It's exactly how I felt four years ago.
Really?
Back then, I searched and searched for a way to show that it wasn't Al who'd shot Makepeace.
But the investigation was a disaster. The evidence against Al just kept stacking up.
And then of course, when Al finally regained consciousness, it all became startlingly clear.
My joy at seeing him awake again was shattered in an instant.
The moment he came out with those words, it was all over.
Aye, and he's still claiming the same thing now. Well, the normal Prof is, at least.
Once I'd heard his confession, I knew it was all pointless.
Ee, Hilda...
So I devoted myself to my profession instead of to a man.
This is pretty sad for Lucy and Alfendi/Alfriendli as well as Hilda. Lucy's just found out that Alfriendli, whom she seems to be developing romantic feelings for, isn't the original Alfendi, and Hilda has all but come right out and confirmed that she and Alfendi were a couple. Alfendi believes he didn't kill Makepeace, but if he didn't, it means that his ex-girlfriend or ex-partner did, and framed him for the crime. Alfriendli was discarded by Hilda due to his differences from Alfendi, and is considered unstable and dangerous by his colleagues, through no fault of his own.
.....
I'm sorry, I hope I haven't embarrassed you. Anyway, I'll be going back to the others now.
Hilda leaves.
Aye, that's right. I'm a detective constable.
The Mystery Room might be the back office of all back offices, but we get stuff done!
So I don't need any time to consider what I should do. There's nowt else for it.
The secret way to the West Tower rooftop!
We must've overlooked summat afore. Else, it still wouldn't be a mystery, would it?
There must be some vital piece of evidence none of us have clocked!
The final mystery.
The Prof's actually admitted he were the one who killed Makepeace four years ago.
If that's true, there's no secret way up to the roof of the West Tower. Why would there be?
But I don't know...
The Prof might have said it himself that he shot Keelan Makepeace, but I don't care.
I don't believe a word of it!
We can now look at items that aren't marked with a circle.
